In 1994, long before Avatar was born, my project "Low Gravity Worlds" began, which was later to be nicknamed "The Ocean Planet".
This mysterious world, now located in the Arietis system on a moon called Ari Moon, contains countless islands, tropical forests, endless beaches and vacation paradises, but also some snowy plateaus at the North Pole and New Australicus, an unexplored continent of arid deserts and steppes.
Starting with drawings and oil paintings, I tried to visualize the places, animals and plants that exist in my imagination. I was inspired as a child by Tim White and the worlds of other sci-fi artists of the 70s and 80s, such as the book "Midworld" by Alan Dean Foster.
Later, enabled by the progress of digitalization, I began to create the first digital images of my worlds, soon followed by 3D models and finally the first short films that take us into a strange tropical world with unexpected dangers and treasures.
I created flying whales so huge that their backs became a refuge for animals and plants, flying fish that glided through the air seemingly weightless with helium bubbles and the first slender blue cat creatures in the late 1990s.
When the movie Avatar was released, I was fascinated by the many parallels to my work. Were we just inspired by the same sources, or is there really such an alien world out there and we all know deep down how it must look like?
Today I would like to take you on a journey to the "Thousand Islands" and offer you the opportunity to get to know the rare night-cat mouse.
